Over 3.07 Crore Women-Led Businesses Registered on Udyam Platform: Government Data
India has witnessed a significant rise in women entrepreneurship, with more than 3.07 crore women-led enterprises registered on the government’s MSME platform as of February 28, 2026.
According to data shared in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for MSME Shobha Karandlaje stated that 3,07,42,621 women-led businesses have been registered on the Udyam Registration Portal and the Udyam Assist Platform.
The registrations reflect a growing participation of women in entrepreneurship across the country.
Udyam Platform Boosting MSME Registration
The Udyam system provides a simplified digital process that allows micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to obtain official registration.
Once registered, businesses gain access to various government support initiatives, including financial assistance, training programmes and market opportunities.
The growing number of women-led enterprises on the platform highlights the increasing shift of small businesses towards formal registration and organised growth.
Government Support for Women Entrepreneurs
The government has introduced several initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s participation in the MSME sector by improving access to finance, training and business support.
One of the key schemes is the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Micro and Small Enterprises, which operates through the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE).
Under this programme, banks and financial institutions can provide loans to small businesses without requiring collateral or third-party guarantees.
Women-led enterprises receive enhanced credit guarantee coverage of up to 90%, compared with 75% for other businesses. They also benefit from a 10% reduction in guarantee fees, making financing more accessible.
Skill Development and Traditional Industry Support
The government has also introduced programmes aimed at skill development and entrepreneurship training.
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme provides artisans and craftspeople with training, stipends and guidance related to entrepreneurship, financial literacy and digital skills.
Meanwhile, the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) supports cluster-based development of traditional industries.
The programme offers assistance for product design, technology upgrades, capacity-building initiatives and digital marketing training, helping small and women-owned businesses expand their reach.
Growing Role of Women in India’s MSME Sector
The rising number of women-led enterprises indicates a gradual transformation in India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
With digital registration platforms, improved access to credit and targeted policy support, women entrepreneurs are playing an increasingly important role in driving economic activity and employment generation across the MSME sector.
Experts believe that continued policy support and skill development initiatives will further strengthen women’s participation in the country’s business landscape.
