BCCI Announces ₹131 Crore Reward for India’s T20 World Cup 2026 Champions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a massive cash reward of ₹131 crore (around $15 million) for the Indian cricket team after their victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

The announcement was made on March 10, two days after India defeated New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8.

With this triumph, India national cricket team created history by becoming the first side to win three T20 World Cup titles. The victory also marked the first time a team successfully defended the T20 World Cup and claimed the trophy while hosting the tournament at home.

BCCI Congratulates Team India

In an official statement, BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia congratulated the players, coaching staff, and selectors for their achievement.

He praised the team led by Suryakumar Yadav for delivering a memorable campaign and wished them continued success in the future. The ₹131 crore reward, he said, recognises the collective effort that brought the trophy home.

India’s Journey to the Title

India entered the 2026 tournament as defending champions after winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating South Africa national cricket team in the final.

During the group stage of the 2026 edition, India performed strongly and remained unbeaten. However, the team faced a setback in the Super 8 stage with a loss to South Africa, which briefly raised doubts about their chances of reaching the semifinals.

A decisive moment came when Sanju Samson played a crucial unbeaten knock of 97 against the West Indies cricket team, helping India secure a place in the knockout stage.

Strong Performances in the Knockouts

In the semifinal clash against England cricket team, India delivered an explosive batting performance by posting a total of over 250 runs. England responded strongly, with Jacob Bethell scoring a brilliant century.

However, India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered crucial overs in the death stages to restrict England and guide India to the final.

Dominant Final Against New Zealand

In the championship match, India produced a commanding performance both with the bat and the ball. The team posted an imposing total of 255/5 in 20 overs before bowling out New Zealand for 159.

The convincing 96-run victory sealed India’s third T20 World Cup title and reaffirmed their position as one of the most dominant teams in the shortest format of the game.
