India Urges Nationals to Exit Iran Immediately as Regional Tensions Intensify

Amid rising geopolitical strain between Tehran and Washington, the Indian government has issued a renewed advisory asking all Indian citizens currently residing in Iran to depart the country at the earliest opportunity using any available mode of transport.

The advisory, released by the Indian Embassy in Tehran on Monday, follows an earlier notice issued on January 5, 2026, when New Delhi had urged its nationals to consider leaving Iran during a period marked by internal unrest and government crackdowns on public demonstrations.

In its latest communication, the Embassy stated that due to the rapidly evolving security situation, Indian nationals — including students, pilgrims, businesspersons, and tourists — should make arrangements to leave Iran through commercial flights or any other feasible travel options.

Advisory Highlights

The Embassy has strongly advised Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to remain vigilant and avoid areas witnessing protests or public gatherings. Citizens have been asked to maintain close contact with the Embassy and regularly monitor credible local news sources for updates on the situation.

Indian nationals have also been instructed to keep their essential travel documents — such as passports, visas, and identification papers — readily accessible at all times.

Registration and Emergency Assistance

The Embassy has encouraged all Indians currently in Iran who have not yet registered with the mission to complete their registration through the designated online portal. In case of internet outages or connectivity issues within Iran, family members in India may complete the registration process on behalf of their relatives.

To ensure immediate assistance during emergencies, the Embassy has shared dedicated helpline numbers and an official email address for consular support:

Emergency Contact Numbers:
+989128109115
+989128109109
+989128109102

The advisory underscores India’s continued efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens amid growing regional uncertainty.
